Happy Birthday Husband! 1-30-10

Well, Dennis is still sick. He's worse than he was at the beginning of the week...even after taking 3 days off of work! And today, because of his sinuses, he got all lightheaded and thought he was going to pass out. This comes at just a wonderful time (hear the sarcasm) because yesterday was his 31st birthday! On Friday, Caitlin made him a birthday card and got blue paint EVERYWHERE!!! I still think you can see a shadow of it on the linoleum floor. But Caitlin had quite a bit of fun making the card and smearing the paint all around. I guess we need to get some finger paints soon.

For Dennis's birthday movie we finally went and watched Avatar in 3D and totally loved it! We probably would have canceled due to Dennis feeling very under the weather, but I had already bought the tickets. Regardless, it was great! Dennis really likes 3D movies and I finally figured out why I don't care for them all that much....they're too distracting! Especially during an action movie. Now, will I watch Toy Story 3 in 3D, you bet your bum I will! When I saw the trailer for it, I was all giggly throughout the whole thing! I just love Toy Story! Anyway, after the movie Dennis and Caitlin (well, Caitlin mostly) took a nap and then we went to dinner. We were going to go to a new place, just the two of us, but Dennis wanted to spend his birthday with Caitlin. It really was a good decision because of how crummy he felt. We ended up going to Sizzler and he got steak and lobster which he really, really liked. I got a salad bar and wished I would have gotten a baked potato too...oh well. Caitlin went to town on the garlic cheese toast and peaches. Then we came home and had some HORRIBLE cake from Ray's. So today I went and got Dennis's old fave, a 3 layer chocolate cake. That went down much better.

Today, we had to make up for what we didn't do on Saturday...mainly grocery shopping. Thankfully, Dennis had the dinner list all done by the time I woke up so all I had to do was make the shopping list. Thank you honey!!!! And for tonight I made Chickpea, Tomato, and Barley soup. It's sooooooo good! I just love the texture of the barley!

Alright, I must get ready for bed. Back to work tomorrow! Let's hope Dennis starts to feel better soon.

Standing

Apparently, Caitlin will stand about anywhere. While playing on her pink little people car, she decided that standing on her knees wasn't good enough...oh no! She thought it was much more fun to stand ON it! She looked like a stunt baby! It was so funny and frightening at the same time that I got a big flash of her future.....professional stunt woman! Oh boy are we in for it. Then she decided it was about time for her to stand on her own. That is, she went from sitting on her knees to standing all on her own! Dennis and I couldn't believe our eyes! And she kept doing it over and over. We are definitely in for it now!

Oh my....

I thought my precious linen closet was safe. Well, it's safe no more. We've caught Caitlin twice now trying to take all the towels and sheets out of the closet. Tonight, she had a big stack of hand towels and was trying to make her way down the hallway with them. By the time she reached the end of the hall, she only had about 2 left. It was like a Hansel and Gretel trail of towels! I need to find a way to resolve her interest in my linen closet. My linen closet is my domain. Certain towels are folded certain ways and their is a specific order for things.....even Dennis doesn't put the towels away! I've tried locks on the doors but they didn't fit! Hmmmm, I need to think about this one.

Tonight as I was making lunches for tomorrow, I was putting some pickles in a bag and decided to have one....well, one turned into five more! I forgot how good pickles tasted! Even Caitlin likes pickles. She tried them today and I was kinda surprised to see her want more....crazy girl! She's also been into strawberries and tomatoes a LOT! Lettuce is okay, but it gags her out a bit sometimes.

Even more!

Today, again while playing the "standing game," Caitlin took sever steps towards me. So many in fact that I had to keep backing up until she got so excited she just fell forward! It's going to be so crazy when that day arrives where Caitlin just starts walking around the house!

First Steps

Tonight while playing the "standing game," Caitlin took 4/5 steps towards Dennis all by herself! And she actually repeated it a few more times, then she got jell-o legs. I can't believe it! Just the other day she'd only take one step so tonight was absolutely unbelievable to watch!

Yesterday we watched the football games and got 4 pizzas from Dominoes. They were actually pretty good...and cheap! I ended up making banana bread, peanut butter cookies, and brownies to go along with all the pizza. Caitlin had a great time and I believe she was the loudest one in the room! She had trouble taking a nap because of all the excitement, but after laying down with mommy for a few minutes, she was out in no time. I just love snuggling with her!

Today we spent most of the day napping. It's been crazy windy and rainy here, so the whole family took a nap in the morning and in the afternoon. In fact, Caitlin's nap this afternoon was almost 3 hours long!....and so was mine! Crazy. I hope we can sleep tonight. Caitlin's already been up once since I put her to bed.

It's back to work tomorrow. All the K-3 grades will be gone on a field trip to see the Peking Acrobats until 11:30, so I'll be able to get quite a few things done in the meantime.

I hope everyone had a wonderful 3 day weekend!

Ear Infection

Yup, it was an ear infection and the doc put her on her first round of antibiotics....amoxicilin. It still smells the same as I remember! Thankfully, she takes it more than willingly!

About 30 minutes ago, we got back from a night of bowling. It was fun and I almost broke 100! Woo hoo! Caitlin had a great time and was being her usual crazy self....cracking people up in the meantime. I was a little unsure if she'd fall asleep easily because she was still wound up while I was putting on her PJ's. I haven't heard her make a sound for the last 15 minutes, so I think we're in the clear. Tomorrow she'll have a chance to "perform" again. Dennis's fantasy football team is coming over to watch the came, so Caitlin will have many people to entertain.

Off to the doctor

So Caitlin may have a possible ear infection. I noticed she was pulling at her ear this morning and thought it was really odd, but she didn't have a fever so I thought it was her just being quirky. Then when I picked her up I found out she had a REALLY bad day. She hardly ate anything and didn't sleep at all and she cried more than ever before. So on the way home I made her a dr. appointment for tomorrow afternoon while she fell asleep in her carseat. She slept for an hour and a half after we got home and has been pretty clingy since. She didn't really want to play and only pushed her little cart around for a minute or two before crawling back to me or Dennis. Poor thing. If she does have an ear infection, it will be her first one. We're going to try daycare tomorrow until her appointment, making sure she gets Tylenol beforehand. I hope she'll do okay.

Earthquake

Yesterday at 4:30pm I was in the biggest earthquake I have ever been it....a 6.5! We were all sound asleep when it happened. Dennis tried to rush in to get Caitlin, but my arms just wouldn't let go and listen to my brain! Caitlin slept through the whole thing too! But we woke her up anyway because I was afraid of the aftershocks. Lots of water splashed out of Dennis's fish tanks and besides an alarm clock, we have no other damage. Our phone line is messed up, so if anyone needs to get a hold of us, you'll have to call my cell. We're lucky we still have power and water because most of the town is without. I think I'm going down to my school today to pick up all the stuff that has fallen. There have been 16 aftershocks at my school since yesterday. Tomorrow will be a very interesting school day to say the least!

Finally! It's here!

After tomorrow, I will be extremely relieved.....the GATE Academy will be OVER!!!!! I've been pretty stressed out about it this week and have had to work extra hours at school and home. Dennis even helped me out last night because I had so much to do. Thank goodness the Academy fell on a Thursday rather than a Tuesday this week! Oh and I also forgot the best part.....there is a 70% chance of rain tomorrow! The kids have to walk to all their classes and the campus is pretty big. Plus, we eat outside because there isn't a building big enough (that's within reasonable walking distance) that can hold all 500-700 students! Looks like we'll all be huddling underneath the eaves! Thankfully, I have an awesome sub for my first grade class tomorrow, so that is one thing I'm not worrying about. I also think I need to collect all the name tags from the kids when we get back. They all have my cell phone number on them and I don't think I really want all 24 of my kids having access to that number longer than it's necessary. Oh, the chaos that could ensue!

14 Months

Caitlin is now 14 months old! And today we broke down and bought her a walker thingy she can push around the house. It was inevitable, really. Ever since her birthday she's been pushing anything she can, all over the house. Then she decided (or discovered, rather) that she could push the bar stool around the kitchen and that was a LOT of fun! But today was the straw that broke the camel's back....she found a baby stroller at daycare that she could push around. So off to Target we went and somehow it wound up in our cart....LOL. As soon as we got home Dennis and Caitlin put it together and she was off and walking...so to speak. And I think because of her new found confidence in pushing things that roll, she decided to stand all by herself again, if only for a few seconds!

Oops

I guess the last several days have gotten away from me and I forgot to blog. We didn't do anything super exciting for New Year's but we did have Chinese for dinner....at an actual restaurant! It was quite interesting to say the least. Caitlin made a HUGE mess....we're talking noodles, rice, and baby food EVERYWHERE!!! And she surely had fun doing it too! Needless to say, our waitress got a pretty good tip for the disaster we left behind. The next day Caitlin decided to stand up by herself.....only for a few seconds though. We were watching Star Trek while she was playing with a cardboard box and then we both looked over to see her standing there.....without holding on to or leaning against anything! Woo hoo! It may have bee a freak occurrence because we haven't seen her do it since. Then on the 2nd we noticed her starting to walk on her knees. I guess this is her stepping stone to walking and it's quite funny to watch. Caitlin is also really working hard on her 12th tooth and she's not to thrilled about it. It's her bottom right incisor that's causing the problem. I'm hoping it'll break through in the next day or so.

Well, it's back to work tomorrow after a WONDERFUL two week vacation. I wish I could say I'm ready to go back, but I'm not. It just means that I'm that much closer (running out of time) until the GATE Academy and an observation of a lesson from my principal.....I seriously hope I don't hyperventilate during that one!

Tootles!
